Project statement
Fastening, structure, and ornament become one instruction.
For my Pattern Development final, I developed a jacket and jeans as one two-piece system. I began with the frog closure—normally a discrete fastening—and enlarged and repeated it until it could organize both silhouette and surface. On the jacket, oversized white frogs punctuate the center front and determine the opening rhythm. On the jeans, their looping geometry is translated into a large-scale smocked panel, creating volume and compression rather than a printed motif. The pattern work required the decorative system to remain wearable: placement had to align with the closure, control bulk, and preserve movement. The technical record brings the thinking into measurable form through flats, points of measure, construction notes, closure details, and a Canadian-smocking map. The finished look resolves the project as a jacket-and-jeans pair in which fastening, structure, and ornament operate as the same idea.

One geometry moves through two garments.
The frog begins as a center-front closure on the jacket. Enlarged and translated through Canadian smocking, the same looping structure reorganizes the surface of the jeans.

The motif is built into the pattern.
The jacket pattern distributes volume through extended panels, then the oversized white frog translates that looping geometry into a functional center-front closure. Both are structural decisions before they become decoration.
