Project statement

Distortion held inside an exact system.

Vortex Denim began as a bespoke commission and became a turning point in how I understood control. I wanted the trousers to register motion while standing still, so the pattern was divided into panels that redirect the eye and alter the way the denim sits on the body. The effect depends on precision: each interruption in the surface has to return to a wearable, balanced garment. More than thirty hours of development and construction went into resolving that relationship. Working at this scale taught me that distortion is most convincing when the system behind it remains exact. The finished trousers hold a clear silhouette from a distance, then disclose their construction as the viewer moves closer.

Construction logic / 01

The eye moves because the seams redirect it.

The panel system creates motion without sacrificing balance on the body. Each interruption has to return to fit, grain, and a durable construction sequence.
